How I got here - Sarah Wade

"It's not just about the event but the lasting impact it has on people months after and the fact you had a fundamental role in that”

Introducing Sarah Wade, our Senior Project Manager. Sarah is an integral part of the We Are Phoenix team and leads with warmth, respect and empathy. Here is Sarah’s story.

“I am originally from the UK and after an evening out with my friend decided to quit my event job and move to Australia for six months. Spontaneous? Ridiculous? Not sure, but as I walked through the departure gates at Heathrow leaving the UK winter and heading to sunnier climes- It felt like the best decision.

I landed in Sydney and started working pretty much immediately at an amazing events agency in Surrey Hills. Initially it was supposed to be a 2 week role working on client proposals but I ended up staying for 6 months working on two amazing events - one of which was in Melbourne! As soon as I landed in Melbourne and ate the lobster rolls at SuperNormal I was convinced this would be my next home.

Since I have been in Melbourne for nearly 9 years now, I have worked across a number of great global brands on some amazing events. I absolutely love events working on the pre production pulling everything together working through the problems and executing the live event. If I could bottle the feeling of elation once an event has finished and has been a huge success I would - there is nothing quite like it. For me, it's not just about the event but the lasting impact it has on people months after and the fact you had a fundamental role in that.

I'm lucky here at We Are Phoenix that I get to work on my two passions, events and leading the team here in Melbourne. It's extremely important to me to create a team where people feel respected, challenged and supported. Events can be very stressful with long hours and days away from home so nurturing a team who supports each other, has fun and focuses on the solutions rather than the problems is something I am so proud of.”
